THE GOLDEN GNOME AWARDS - ANNOUNCED BY JAGEX FOR RUNEFEST 2010

Jagex Games Studio, the UK’s largest independent games company, today announced The Golden Gnome Awards, which will celebrate the video making within RuneScape. The Golden Gnome Awards will be a live ceremony at RuneFest 2010, and will recognise the best video making talent within the RuneScape community. RuneFest 2010 will be taking place on Saturday 28th August 2010 and will be held at a very exciting central London venue.

The Golden Gnome Awards will be a celebration of the art and talent of video making that is prolific within the RuneScape communities. Having realised that the art form comes in various shapes and sizes The Golden Gnomes are designed to celebrate differing styles and themes of video production.

Two video themes and three categories encourage players to showcase their talent and enter the competition in the hope of winning a coveted
Golden Gnome.

The two themes are “Short Story” and RuneScape music video (aka “RSMV”) and the three categories within each theme - Machinima, Animation and Live Action Video.

Six awards are up for grabs in the following categories:

• Short Story in Machinima
• Short Story in Animation
• Short Story in Live action Video
• RSMV in Machinima
• RSMV in Animation
• RSMV in Live action Video

Players will be able to upload their entries to YouTube, and send their link to the competition entry address -
competitions@jagex.com ‘RuneFest 2010 YouTube Competition’ as the subject line.

Once the entries are in, the RuneFest 2010 judges will select their favourite entries for each of the categories. The RuneScape community will then be welcomed to vote for its favourite in each of the six categories in a secret poll.

The winners will be announced at the awards after a final vote from the RuneFest 2010 attendees and the most worthy six recipients will be invited to collect their award at the ceremony from a very special guest!

RuneScape Community Manager Paul Mayer said; “We’ve seen some phenomenal levels of creativity from RuneScape’s video making community over the years and at RuneFest 2010 we’re going all out with our biggest and most comprehensive video competition to date –
The Golden Gnome Awards. As a huge fan of RuneScape videos I can’t wait to meet some of our finest video makers on the red carpet.”

So we are.”

Mark Gerhard, CEO of Jagex commented; “The team is absolutely electric with enthusiasm for this event, we’ve always wanted to do a fan celebration for our players but crucially not just any old player convention – we insisted that it would be something that was not only different from tired conventions, but an intimate, memorable and naturally incredibly fun, festive fan celebration. This is certainly going to be a landmark event and one of the best parties we’ve ever had. The team and I are really excited about meeting and celebrating our biggest fans namely our epic community, we have also got a few surprises up our sleeve that I’m certain our players will love.”
