Let’s Rock! Guitar Hero World Tour Review

World tour is the latest and greatest edition to Neversoft, Red Octane and Activision’s best selling guitar hero series.

Introducing new features, instruments and a massive collection of 60+ new songs to rock at to name a few of those songs is Metallica – Trapped Under Ice, Bon Jovi – Livin’ on a Prayer, Jimi Hendrix – Purple Haze(Live), Smashing pumpkins - Today and Ozzy Osbourne – Crazy Train. That’s not all, they have also brought in a selection of rock musicians too like they did with Slash and Tom Morello from guitar hero 3, in world tour they got Zack Wylde and Ted Nugent and more but I don’t want to say anymore and spoil the surprise so you’ll have to get off your butt and start rocking away to find them out for yourself.

The all new band mode which has 4 players that can choose to either play as a singer, guitarist, bassist or the drums. Each of the instruments brings a unique feel to the game like the new wireless guitar which is like the older versions but it’s been made as a full size guitar and has a slider pad on the neck, to use it you either tap a button or slide up or down to combine notes together making the guitar more fun to play so you can now jump off the seat and run around the room showing off your new skill to your friends by playing like a true rock legend.

The microphone is wired so you are limited of movement so you can’t run around (where’s the wireless?!) but it does bring more of an amazing experience to the game making it more like a real band bringing singstar to guitar hero and to use your star power you either tap the top of the microphone or press one of the buttons off the controller. Last but simply not least the wireless drums Neversoft has done a really great job with this drum kit having 2 cymbals, 3 drum pads and a bass pedal. Activision wanted to bring a realistic drum experience and it’s true they have delivered it! This 6 piece drum kit is awesome it is like playing on a real drum set while you are playing the game keep a look out for the bigger note on screen they require you to hit the certain drum pad harder to get the points and to activate the star power on this you will need to hit the yellow and orange cymbals together to do so.

There are plenty of new features in this game ranging from customization of characters and instruments in Rockstar creator and Instrument creator for you to make and edit your very own rocker and create your own instrument’s colour and style.

In career mode it has been made different to the last games instead of picking a song to play you get to have a gig style you’ll get multiple set lists to choose from and play through instead. It’s a shame the stages in world tour don’t look as good as the previous titles but with the band playing away and the crowd singing along to those hardcore tunes you don’t notice, while playing through the career mode and successfully making the crowd happy you will get to unlock new items for characters and instruments and getting bonus cash to buy more gigs or kit. Speaking of career you will find a new option called band career this is where you can join or host an online band.

Music studio has come into guitar hero where you can or 3 other players can join in as a band to compose and record your own music song also by using GHTunes you can put your created song on the net for other guitar hero users to download to try out and using the same place you can download and play songs created by other users to.

With online play you can either play solo and show off those Zack Wylde skills of yours or get friends together over a network to play in a band or to make an even better rock experience why not take it to the next level and try out Band versus Band mode which has 8 players in a 4 vs. 4 battle of the band style. All it needs now is connection to Eye Toy or Xbox Live vision camera to create your own style of music videos and able to post online to show everyone how geeky, funny or amazing you are.

So overall I would say this is the number 1 Christmas present to get for either your kids or for other loved ones to get a real band experience. There are 3 different versions of the game to buy which includes band bundle with all instruments and game, guitar bundle just one wireless guitar and solo game pack so which ever you choose pick up your choice of instrument and start rocking away!!
