Gamersathome Interview With Bill Roper

Yesterday seen us having the exclusive opportunity to have a interview with the great man himself Bill Roper.

Gamersathome: Hi Bill I’m Richard from Gamersathome.

Bill Roper: Hi Richard nice to meet you.

Gamersathome: So what’s the best aspect of the game for you personally?

Bill Roper: Umm honestly for me its how, well umm im a pretty core player so I love the fact that I can go in and completely tweak and tune my player constantly, as im getting upgrades in the game like what exactly they do and equipping them, the fact I can come up with a pretty wild concept for a hero, and because there isn’t really a class in the game im not restricted in that way so I can build out.  its pretty easy just to go through and go like I want to make a guy who fly’s and he uses fire powers and I can stay in the fire theme with fly as my travel power and boom and it works great, but you no im the kind of player who wants to go in and try crazy combinations and try a weird theme  for my character and see if I can make him, so I really enjoy the fact that it’s a very open system that allows me to tweak and tinker as much as I want.

Gamersathome:  when playing the game for myself I noticed that the create a character is really easy to use unlike some other titles which it’s all too fiddly in changing certain parts of the character to how you want and most games are so restricted unlike Champions online is very unrestricted?

Bill Roper:  Yea its we have put a lot of effort in to that because you no because I think that’s the key to it now is giving players a lot of power and a lot of ability to do those things and present it in a way that allows them to do those things easily and for it to be fun.

Gamersathome: Is there a lot of maps in Champions Online, such as areas you can go to and the size of them?

Bill Roper: There’s five major zones but within those zones there’s dozens and dozens and tons and tons of neighbourhoods and basically neighbourhoods are you no can be anything from instants to maps so even though your in the desert there’s a secret oasis you can find, there's a hidden viper base that you can find, there’s the abandoned amusement park which has rampaging robot cowboys that are around there, also irradiated gold mines. There's all these places you can find and really the zones almost act more as a thematic setting and then we just do tons and tons with in it like in millennium city there's so many places you can go and find, like things even on rooftops, so for players that are flying around and out exploring and being like oh wait there's a temple on this rooftop, you no just trying to have all kinds of environments with in that more thematic zone.

Gamersathome: So it kind of just keeps going and going then like worlds inside worlds so to speak?

Bill Roper: I mean yeah but there are edges you no you can get to the edge of the zone and its actually again what we do with champions is focus on bringing that fore colour comic feel to life so even when you start getting out side pass the edge of the zone everything goes black and white that’s how you no your getting to far away which is a sign to come back and that’s when the colour comes back in to the world.

Gamersathome:  Once you have designed and created your character are you stuck to that design or can you go back in and change his or her appearance?

Bill Roper:  Yeah as you progress through the game one of the things you get is a reward is extra costume slots, so you can go in and have a totally different look for your character. A lot of times they actually fit with the themes.

Gamersathome:  Well that’s all I guess, lets pop next door and have a blast on the game.

Bill Roper:  Yeah its some times better to just have a hands on with the game because I could sit here and talk for hours.

Thank you very much to Bill Roper for spending time with us in the interview.
