A Chip Off The Old Block! Boom Blox Review

One of the most exciting puzzle games to be released on the Nintendo Wii, Boom Blox brought to you by EA Games and a well known name to everyone Steven Spielberg. These two have brought out one of the most enjoyable games to hit the Wii packing over 300 levels to play on and even got a level creator to make your own crazy levels to share them over the WiiConnect24.

Boom Blox will remind you of a few classic style games like Jenga for instance and carnival games, to play this game you’ll have to use the Wii remote to Shoot, Throw and even grab blox. The point of this game varies on which type you want to play but the aim of the game is to hit, smash and destroy the blox and the games engine has been made so precise and accurate that it makes it feel more realistic when you hit the blox in certain angles or the blox weight or how hard you throw a ball is how it will react in real life the game detects if you throw fast and see the ball blasts it way through or just gently throw it and watch in shame as the ball just bounces back.

Each of the challenges in the game you will have to use different techniques to complete each challenge the tools you get to use is Throw, throw is where you either smash your way through the blox or hit certain blox to make huge towers collapse to the floor. Blast is the carnival based game where you got certain weapons such as a western six-shooter pistol or a fire hose to knock down all the blox. Build; build is where you and friends get to play together and use tactics to move and pick up blox to solve puzzles. Last but not least is Grab, grab has to be the best tool on the game this is the Jenga style play where you will have to choose and pull blox out carefully or pull to fast and see that tower crumble to the floor.

There are few mode types to keep you busy at, Explore Mode which is where you choose from six categories Gem, Point, Bomb, Vanish, Chemical and Grab in any of these categories gives you various challenges to complete. Adventure Mode is story-based levels taking you through different locations which could be a medieval castle, Halloween graveyards or even in the jungle. Party Play is where you and a friend (up to four players) can choose to either play against each other in competitive or play as a team in cooperative these two options has a huge range to choose from to play in which can either be Throw, blast, grab or attack, attack is where you a castle made entirely out of blox and you and your friend(s) have to launch bowling balls at each other’s castle first one to knock down all the blox wins.

There are a different variety of blox to see and destroy to name a few:

Normal: just a normal wooden blox

Immobile: these are the ones that don’t move and are indestructible

Gem: a sparkling blue blox

Points: these blox has various numbers on them to show how much a player will earn if knocked down

Penalty: same as the point’s blox but instead of earning these blox will deduct points off the player

Bomb: this red blox will explode once hit and any blox caught in its blast radius will fly off

In Create your own level you have a huge range of tools to choose from to create wacky new levels from scratch or modify existing level to add different challenges. You’ll you have a tool box and a toy box to use as well the tool and toy box has their own unique uses like choose a blox, character, paint, erase and scale tools.

Also while you are playing through the game you will unlock presents and trophies which is new levels and new items to use in the create tools.

This game is out now to purchase from any games store or online store, it is a highly recommended game to buy we at gamersathome spent a good few hours on it and we could not put the remote down.
