Play Like A Pro! Tiger Woods Pga Tour 11

The sport of golf is big money; and there is no one in the game who means more money to more people than Tiger Woods.

Despite being caught sleeping with everyone from prostitutes to worn-out porn stars, EA stuck by Tiger Woods while other companies jumped ship. Maybe that’s because Vijay Singh PGA Tour 11 wouldn’t move as many units despite being the same game with a different cover. Speaking of being the same game with a different cover, the thing most potential purchasers want to know is if this year’s entry in the EA Sport’s PGA Tour series is another one of their “same game with a different number” entries.

In true EA Sports fashion, this year’s release is just a repackaged PGA Tour 10 with a couple minimal refinements. The biggest addition to PGA Tour 11 over previous releases is of course the “Online Pass” which EA has implemented in order to cash in on used game sales.

As usual you create your player and handle everything from appearance to attributes. This is great and a staple of sports games, but again nothing new. From the beginning your golfer is a complete weakling on the links and will require a lot of building up. You’ll do this thanks to the experience points you’ll get from various accomplishments like nailing a birdie or a long distance putt that eats up a lot of green. So from the beginning it feels like you’re playing a very pretty copy of PGA Tour 05. The mechanics continue to devolve and simplify as they have in past years to lure in more casual golf fans too.

One new addition that can be considered a “feature”, unlike the profitable “Online Pass”, is the new Ryder Cup mode. You can play as either the United States or Europe and battle it out to see who gets to take home the Ryder Cup and the bragging rights in this twelve on twelve competition.

The sound and visuals in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 are far from shocking, because just like every single thing in the game, it’s predictable. Silent fairways with birds chirping fill the air. Crowds cheer right on cue and everything down to the announcer is as predictable as always. The graphics have been touched up in the usual annual fashion. Textures appear to have gotten the once over and there are some new player animations to freshen up the tee. So while everything in this year’s entry looks better overall, it’s still nothing new to look at.

The big question in all of this is whether or not EA Sports’ Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 is worth it. The simple answer is obviously no. Unless the idea of the twelve on twelve Ryder Cup has you wetting yourself, there is no legitimate reason to pick up this rehashed disc of “been there, done that”. Keep playing last year’s copy of PGA Tour 10 and you’ll have just as much fun and still have the money to go buy a better game that a company spent more time polishing and innovating on. If you don’t have a copy of PGA Tour 10. You won’t even need to pay for an Online Pass.
